Veteran Turkish stage actress Necla Uygur dies at 89
Necla Uygur, a veteran of the Turkish stage, wife of the late comedian Nejat Uygur and mother of actors Süheyl and Behzat Uygur, has died at 89 in the hospital where she was being treated. She will be buried in Istanbul’s Feriköy Cemetery on Friday.
Veteran Turkish theater actress Necla Uygur has died at the age of 89 in the hospital where she was receiving treatment. She was the wife of the late stage artist Nejat Uygur and the mother of actors Süheyl and Behzat Uygur.
"We announce with great sadness that our theater’s master actress, our dear mother Necla Uygur, passed away today in the hospital where she was being treated," the Uygur family said.
On stage with her sons
After her husband’s death in 2013, Uygur continued to share the stage with her sons, appearing with them in "Markopaşa Müzikali" in 2015, and remained a key figure in the Uygur family’s generations-long theater tradition.
Funeral
A funeral prayer will be held at Istanbul’s Teşvikiye Mosque after the afternoon prayer on Friday, Oct. 9, followed by burial at Feriköy Cemetery.
