Christiane Amanpour, CNN's chief international anchor, has announced she will leave the network next June after 43 years. The 68-year-old journalist, who was born in London to an Iranian father and a British mother and grew up in Tehran, said she made the decision "after many months of thought and a few sleepless nights."
Amanpour thanked the show teams and field crews she worked with in a career that took her from her first big assignment, the first Gulf War, to the Bosnian War, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Iran. Addressing journalists, she said: "Remember: always be truthful, not neutral."

Her eponymous program on CNN International, which she has hosted since 2009, will air once a week from January 2027 and end in May. She will keep reporting for CNN through June, while her PBS program "Amanpour & Company" will end in December.
CNN Chairman Mark Thompson thanked her for "43 extraordinary years" in a memo to staff, calling her "one of the most trusted and beloved journalists anywhere."
