Details of a drug network were uncovered as part of an investigation carried out by the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. It was determined that suspects operating in the pharmaceutical sector obtained high-value drugs from pharmaceutical warehouses and companies by issuing fake prescriptions.
The suspects had stockpiled drugs used for the treatment of life-threatening chronic diseases such as cancer, organ transplants, ALS, diabetes, and hypertension. They used pharmacist identities to smuggle the drugs abroad. Police surveillance revealed that the network managed the drug shipments through couriers.
It was determined that the suspects used their own pharmacist identities and credentials as a front to smuggle these high-cost drugs abroad through airports and various cargo companies in an illicit manner.
Simultaneous raids were conducted in six provinces. Following technical and physical surveillance, the teams launched the operation, carrying out simultaneous raids on June 24 at addresses in Istanbul, Ankara, Kahramanmaraş, Diyarbakır, Hakkari, and Şırnak. During the operation, 19 suspects for whom arrest warrants had been issued were caught red-handed and taken into custody.
The detained suspects are still undergoing police procedures.
