A second-floor balcony of a 4-story building on Yenidünya Street in Üsküdar's Sultantepe neighborhood partially collapsed for reasons not yet determined.
Hearing the sound of falling concrete, residents evacuated the building on their own and moved to a safe area. Police, fire crews, and Üsküdar Municipality enforcement teams were dispatched to the scene following the report.
After conducting an inspection, the teams cordoned off the building with tape and barriers and sealed the doors.
However, tension arose between residents and the teams after the evacuation. Resident Yusuf Can Şişman claimed that the municipality told them they would provide shelter but failed to keep that promise.
We called the police and fire department, they came. The municipal police, police, and fire crews inspected the house. They told us, 'We will close this house and find you a place,' and made us leave. Then they locked the door and left everyone to God's mercy. My wife is pregnant, I have an elderly mother, sisters, a brother-in-law, a nephew. We are on the street right now. We were just left like that. They told us, 'We will find you a place,' even if just for one day. This place was full of teams, look, now there is no one. The municipal police chief was here, he said 'For your safety,' and we trusted him. We came out, they sealed the door, then they left. And we were left on the street like this. My wife is pregnant, we have nowhere to go. We will sit here like this until morning.
Şişman reacted angrily to the authorities, saying that he, his pregnant wife, and his elderly mother were left on the street.
