The Interior Ministry shared comprehensive data on its fight against online illegal betting activities on internet and social media platforms. Cybercrime units of the General Directorate of Security and the Gendarmerie General Command monitor illegal betting sites and linked accounts through "cyber patrol" operations conducted on a 24/7 basis.
Cyber teams use technological means to examine illegal betting sites, accounts that advertise them, and digital traces connected to payment systems. Judicial and administrative processes are initiated against sites and accounts found to have criminal elements.
3,231 suspects arrested in 680 operations
According to ministry data, 680 operations have been carried out against online illegal betting crimes since the beginning of the year. In the operations, 5,629 suspects were detained. 3,231 of the suspects were arrested, while judicial control measures were imposed on 1,515. During the same period, the number of illegal betting sites blocked reached 47,493.
Within the scope of the investigations, in addition to those who organize or enable illegal betting, individuals who manage the infrastructure of the sites, advertise them, facilitate money transfers, and are considered to play a role in transferring criminal proceeds are also being monitored.
Bank, electronic money, and crypto asset accounts used by illegal betting sites to continue their activities are also being investigated as part of the cyber teams' technical work and financial examinations.
