During the holiday period, there was a significant decrease in both vehicle and pedestrian traffic in Istanbul. According to Hava Forum data, traffic and pedestrian density in the city dropped by approximately 80%. This situation is associated with the increase in the number of people leaving Istanbul for the holiday. On the other hand, in different provinces such as Sivas, Kastamonu, Trabzon, Rize, Ordu, Giresun, Samsun, Sinop, Erzurum, Malatya, Tokat, Muğla, İzmir, and Antalya, increases of up to 200% in traffic density were recorded. In these cities, traffic and pedestrian density rose due to the holiday activity. The decrease in traffic density in Istanbul is explained by the increase in departures from the city, while the increase in other cities appears to be linked to the local mobility boost during the holiday period. This differentiation in traffic and pedestrian mobility during the holiday stands out as a notable development for holiday planning and urban transportation.
