Under the agreement signed between the Gabon government and Hakan Kıran Holding, a modern and integrated poultry production facility is planned to be established in the Ntoum region of the country. The project, valued at approximately $120 million, aims to significantly increase Gabon's chicken meat production capacity and reduce its dependency on imports. While the project is expected to reach an annual production capacity of 60,000 tons, some sources indicate that the production target could be raised to between 85,000 and 90,000 tons within two years.
This investment is not just about establishing a production facility. It aims to directly address fundamental issues such as the high cost of living, dependency on food imports, and lack of local production that Gabon has long struggled with. The plan to ban chicken meat imports as of January 1, 2027, makes Hakan Kıran's project even more critical. Because this facility will be one of the main projects to meet domestic market demand after Gabon's import ban.
The Gabon government aims to make agriculture and livestock one of the strategic sectors of the economy through the signed agreements. At the signing ceremony attended by Economy Minister Thierry Minko and Agriculture Minister Pacôme Kossy, it was stated that the total investment value exceeded 775 billion FCFA. The fact that these investments are carried out with partners based in Turkey, China, and Cameroon indicates that Gabon has entered a new era of international cooperation in the agricultural sector.

Hakan Kıran's project stands out as one of the most visible headlines of this large investment package. With an integrated farm model, it is expected to manage not only chicken production but also many stages such as feed, breeding, processing, and supply chain within the same structure. This shows that the project could be effective in Gabon not only in increasing production but also in terms of employment, technology transfer, and the development of the local agricultural ecosystem.

The agreement, which received wide coverage in the Gabonese press, also brought back into focus the increasing role of Turkish investors in agricultural and food security projects in Africa. Hakan Kıran's move in Gabon represents a notable example in terms of Turkey-Africa economic relations. At a time when food security has become a strategic global issue, the convergence of Gabon's goal to increase local production with the capital and project development capacity of the Turkish investor on the same ground
could open the door to a new era for the region.

According to officials, these agreements represent not only a solution to Gabon's current food needs but also an important start for the country to become a competitive agricultural and livestock center in Central Africa in the long term. The $120 million poultry investment signed by Hakan Kıran is seen as one of the most concrete and ambitious steps toward this goal.
