Aaron Sorkin said he wanted to bring Jesse Eisenberg back to play Mark Zuckerberg in the upcoming The Social Reckoning film and spent three days trying to convince him.
Sorkin noted that Eisenberg’s performance in The Social Network was very fitting for the role and that he was a proven actor for this character.
However, Eisenberg reportedly declined the offer. Sorkin explained that Eisenberg no longer wanted to be identified with Mark Zuckerberg and maintained a personal distance from the character.
Sorkin also mentioned that Eisenberg disliked encountering children at airports who approached him with business cards reading "CEO, son of a bitch" asking for autographs.
The role eventually went to Jeremy Strong. Sorkin recounted that during a meeting at the 2025 Oscars, Strong showed interest and was enthusiastic about the project.
According to Sorkin, Strong was fully immersed in the character from the first day on set, even greeting people in the morning as if he were Mark Zuckerberg.
The Social Reckoning is scheduled to be released on October 9, 2026.
