Apple has removed several popular apps owned by the Russian social media and technology company VK from the App Store. The removed apps include VK, Zen, VK Video, VK Messenger, VK Music, VK Dating, and Odnoklassniki. The company announced that these apps can no longer be downloaded on Apple devices and that existing installations cannot be updated.
In a written statement, VK said Apple unilaterally removed the apps without any prior warning. The statement noted that VK is not on any sanctions list, adding: "Apple's decision restricts Russian users' access to widely used services."
The statement emphasized that due to the inability to update the apps, users may not receive instant notifications about messages and important developments, and said: "We find Apple's steps against Russian users groundless and unacceptable."
Apple had previously removed numerous apps owned by Russian companies from the App Store. Russia, for its part, had imposed access restrictions on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and X.
