Apple unveiled its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, at an event held at its campus in Cupertino, California. John Ternus, the company’s chief executive officer (CEO), who took over from Tim Cook on September 1, appeared on stage for the first time as CEO.
Ternus said smartphones should combine the advantages of larger screens with a design that fits in a pocket or the palm of a hand. Saying that a foldable design was the most suitable solution for this goal, Ternus stated that Apple focused on the device’s screen ratio, ease of use and engineering solutions.
iPhone Duo display and sales features
When unfolded, the iPhone Duo will have a 7.6-inch inner display for viewing content, playing games and multitasking. The device will use a special nano-textured surface designed to reduce glare.
When the phone is folded, it will be used with a 5.4-inch outer display. Within its compact, pocket-friendly design, this screen will offer 90% of the display area of the iPhone 18 Pro.
The iPhone Duo will be launched in “star white” and “night sky” color options, with pre-orders opening in more than 70 countries on October 16. The phone will go on sale on October 23 at a starting price of $1,999.
Price increases for iPhone 18 Pro models
Apple also unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. The new phones were announced with improvements over previous models in intelligence, performance, battery life and camera features.
The iPhone 18 Pro will offer up to 24 hours of use on a single charge, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max will offer up to 30 hours. The models, which will be available in black, silver, ice blue and burgundy, will have starting prices of $1,199 and $1,299, respectively.

Apple will also introduce the “Apple Reference Image” feature, which shows that a photo was taken with an iPhone and not generated by artificial intelligence. The feature will not be available when the products launch in the European Union and China because of legal regulations.

The new wireless earbuds, AirPods 5, were announced to offer 50% more noise cancellation performance than the previous generation. AirPods 5 will have a starting price of $129.
