Bayraktar TB3 drops sonobuoys from TCG Anadolu in anti-submarine first
Baykar’s carrier-capable Bayraktar TB3 launched two sonobuoys after taking off from TCG Anadolu during the Denizkurdu-I/2026 exercise, the first sonobuoy deployment by a Turkish-made drone in an operational maritime environment.
Operating from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship TCG Anadolu in the Eastern Mediterranean during the Turkish Navy’s Denizkurdu-I/2026 exercise, the Bayraktar TB3 launched two sonobuoys from Baykar’s indigenous Sonobuoy Dispenser System pod and coordinated with a maritime patrol aircraft.
Using its onboard processing unit, the TB3 processed data from its own sonobuoys and from those dropped by the patrol aircraft, delivering real-time underwater data. It was the first time a Turkish-made drone deployed sonobuoys in an operational maritime environment.
