A ceremony was held at the Turkish Embassy in Berlin to mark the 65th anniversary of the Labor Agreement signed between Türkiye and Germany in 1961. Fuat Oktay, chair of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye’s Foreign Affairs Commission, commission members of parliament and Zafer Sırakaya, chair of the Türkiye-Germany Friendship Group, attended the ceremony.

The embassy said that Fuat Oktay, Zafer Sırakaya and Berlin Ambassador Gökhan Turan addressed the participants at the ceremony. Two citizens representing the first generation of the Turkish community in Germany also spoke, sharing their memories and experiences.

Under the migration process that began with the agreement signed on October 30, 1961, hundreds of thousands of Turkish workers went to Germany. Today, approximately 3 million people of Türkiye origin live in Germany. The agreement’s 65th anniversary is being commemorated with events held in various German cities.
