BilimFest, organized under the coordination of Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality’s Özdemir Bayraktar Science Center, has begun at Pazarkapı Living Area. The festival is being held in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Technology, TÜBİTAK, TÜRKSAT and the Provincial Directorate of National Education.
The event will feature 102 outdoor workshops, as well as science shows, robot demonstrations, planetarium activities and technology exhibits.
HÜRJET, BAHA and BARKAN on display
Defense industry firms and technology companies are also taking part in the festival. TUSAŞ’s HÜRJET indigenous jet trainer aircraft, along with HAVELSAN’s BAHA unmanned aerial vehicle and BARKAN unmanned ground vehicle, has been put on display for visitors.

In his opening speech, Governor Tahir Şahin said the world was undergoing various transformations and changes, while Türkiye was also experiencing many developments in technology. Şahin said young people would receive the state’s full support during the transformation process and that public institutions would work together with young people to build a more developed and prosperous Trabzon.
Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç said the city would become a center of science in addition to its fields of history, culture, arts, sports and tourism. Saying that producing knowledge and advanced technology had become a necessity, Genç said Türkiye’s indigenous capacity in the defense sector had increased.
Genç noted that Türkiye’s defense sector had been 80 percent dependent on foreign sources 25 years ago, whereas 85 percent of the country’s defense capacity was now indigenous.
