Despite the pressure following the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision in global markets, news flow regarding the agreement signed between the US and Iran supported pricing. At the first Federal Open Market Committee meeting led by new Chair Kevin Warsh, the Fed kept the policy rate steady at 3.5-3.75%.
The Fed’s projections strengthened expectations of a possible rate hike in 2026. Warsh emphasized that inflation remains above the 2% target and conveyed a commitment to price stability.
Analysts noted that avoiding forward guidance increased uncertainty but that the statements supported a tight monetary policy stance. This outlook emerged as the main factor limiting global risk appetite.
On the geopolitical front, a 14-point memorandum of understanding aimed at halting the war and resolving issues through negotiations between the US and Iran was signed digitally. It was reported that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump signed the document.
Following the memorandum, the parties are expected to begin a 60-day negotiation period soon to reach a final agreement on topics such as Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.
