Mixed course in global markets
Global markets exhibited a mixed outlook as the agreement reached between the US and Iran and the decline in oil prices eased inflation concerns. Investors' focus turned to the decisions to emerge from the US Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee meeting.
At the first meeting to be chaired by Kevin Warsh, the policy rate is expected to be kept steady in the range of 3.5-3.75 percent. Markets are closely watching not only the decision but also the forward guidance that will come with it.
Approval decision in Halkbank case
One of the prominent domestic developments was the US court's approval of the dismissal of the criminal case against Halkbank. The bank disclosed that the US District Court for the Southern District of New York had accepted the joint application made with the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.
According to the statement, the nine-year legal process thus came to an end completely. The decision was seen as an important step that closes the legal chapter concerning the bank.
Tomorrow's data releases to be watched
Analysts noted that tomorrow, domestic short-term external debt statistics, housing sales data, and the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey's Monetary Policy Committee meeting summary along with money and banking statistics will be followed. Abroad, the Bank of England's interest rate decision and the US Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index will be on the agenda.
From a technical perspective, the 14,300 and 14,200 point levels stand out as support, while the 14,500 and 14,600 point levels are resistance for the BIST 100 index.
