The new installment in the Call of Duty series, Modern Warfare 4, will launch in two stages this time. While the full version is scheduled for release on October 23, players who pre-order will gain early access to the single-player campaign starting October 16.
This marks the first time in three years that the series is adopting a different release model. Opening the campaign early will highlight the story aspect before the multiplayer mode and full game become available.
A South Korean Soldier Takes Center Stage in the Story
According to the official introduction, players will fight as Park, a young South Korean soldier. Park is sent to the front lines with his squad as a soldier experiencing real combat for the first time.
What begins as a routine mission turns chaotic when North Korea launches a full-scale attack. Park and his unit are drawn into a struggle, moving through collapsing cities and joining counterattacks.
Captain Price Returns to the Spotlight
The announcement also highlights that Captain Price, who has shifted from being an operator to living outside the law, will play a significant role in the story. Price is portrayed as operating outside the system, with his quest for revenge bringing him close to a weapon that could shift the balance of power.
This narrative places the character at the center of an escalating conflict beyond official missions. It emphasizes that Price is unwittingly drawn into a broader war.
The Series Aims for a More Realistic Tone Again
The company also revealed that Modern Warfare 4 will not include the celebrity-themed cosmetics that appeared in previous games and drew player criticism. Management stated that every decision must align with the spirit of Modern Warfare, including cosmetics and collaborations.
This approach signals a commitment to keeping the game simpler and more realistic. The announcement noted a stance focused on preserving the identity of the production.
The New Game Is Also Coming to Nintendo
Modern Warfare 4 will be the first Call of Duty game released on a Nintendo system since 2011. However, the game will not be available on PlayStation 4.
The game will also not be added immediately to Xbox Game Pass. According to the announcement, at least a year will need to pass before the game is available on the service.
Thus, Modern Warfare 4 presents a notable release plan within the series, with early campaign access and selective platform choices. While opening the story mode early before the full release, it excludes some older platforms and subscription timelines.
