Sixty-eight-year-old Chadian citizen Arabi Nganga had been unable to walk without support for nearly a year because of severe osteoarthritis in his knees. After undergoing right knee replacement surgery at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital, he stood up again and began taking steps with the help of a walker.
Nganga said the pain in his knees had begun about three years ago and had gradually worsened. He said he had been unable to stand up on his own during the past year and had needed help from his children. Nganga added that even during air travel, other people had to lift him.
"I could not stand up on my own. After the surgery, I started taking steps again. I can now stand on my feet. I am very happy."
Severe osteoarthritis was diagnosed in both knees
Assoc. Prof. Ceyhun Çağlar, the administrative head of the orthopedics and traumatology clinic, said Nganga had been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in both knee joints. He noted that the patient was able to stand up and began walking with a walker after right knee replacement surgery.
Çağlar said severe osteoarthritis could lead to a complete loss of mobility if it was not treated in time, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
