A group of climbers on Mount Ağrı (Ararat) narrowly escaped being trapped under rocks that broke away in a landslide.
Footage published by TRT Haber shows stones and rocks pouring down a glacier-covered slope amid a cloud of dust as climbers shelter among boulders to protect themselves. Later in the video, the slide moves toward an area where camp tents stand further down the mountain.

Melting and rockfall risk
At 5,137 meters, Mount Ağrı is Türkiye’s highest summit and draws many Turkish and foreign climbers every year. Experts warn that the melting of its summit glaciers as temperatures rise is increasing flows of mud and stones on its slopes.
