Coca-Cola İçecek A.Ş. announced that the İzmir Customs Directorate of the Ministry of Trade had issued decisions imposing an additional assessment and administrative fine totaling more than TRY 2 billion 823 million on the company.
In a disclosure to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), the company stated that the İzmir Customs Directorate had decided to impose an additional assessment of TRY 705,793,270.02 and an administrative fine of TRY 2,117,379,810.06 on Coca-Cola İçecek.
The combined amount of the two items comes to TRY 2,823,173,080.08.
The company takes the decision to court
Coca-Cola İçecek rejected the additional assessment and administrative fine and initiated legal proceedings.
The company said it had filed a lawsuit within the statutory period to overturn the decisions. Coca-Cola İçecek's management also stated that no cash outflow from the company was expected as a result of the decisions until the legal proceedings reached a certain stage.
Therefore, the TRY 2.82 billion amount should not be regarded as a finalized and paid fine by the company. The legal proceedings are ongoing.
The entire TRY 2.8 billion is not a fine
Descriptions of the measure as a direct “TRY 2.8 billion fine” do not reflect the fact that the figures in the announcement comprise two separate items.
Approximately TRY 705.8 million of the total is an additional assessment, while TRY 2.117 billion constitutes an administrative fine.
Although the total financial measure can therefore be described as approximately TRY 2.82 billion, the administrative fine itself is approximately TRY 2.12 billion.
Coca-Cola had previously been the subject of a Competition Authority case
Companies linked to Coca-Cola have recently been involved in other regulatory proceedings as well.
In November 2025, the Competition Authority imposed an administrative fine of approximately TRY 282.4 million on Coca-Cola Sales and Distribution A.Ş. on the grounds that an on-site inspection had been obstructed and made more difficult.
In June 2026, another investigation into Coca-Cola Sales and Distribution, concerning competition concerns that rivals could be excluded through exclusivity and discount practices, was concluded after the Competition Board accepted the commitments submitted by the company.
As part of this process, new obligations were introduced regarding the space that must be allocated to rival products in Coca-Cola-owned refrigerators.
The legal process will determine the outcome of the customs decision
The decision taken by the İzmir Customs Directorate has now initiated a new legal process worth billions of lira for Coca-Cola İçecek.
While the company seeks to overturn the decisions, the final status of the TRY 2.823 billion additional assessment and fine will be determined by the outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings.
