Only two days remain until the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31). The summit, which will be attended by government officials, delegations and negotiating teams from 196 countries, will be held in Antalya from November 9 to 20. Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum shared a video on his social media account with the message: "COP31 is on everyone's lips, in our soil, in our garden and on the world's agenda. We are in Antalya from November 9 to 20 for our Common Home, the Earth."
The video shared by Minister Kurum tells the story of an elderly couple traveling through a field in their tractor, highlighting the aspects of climate action that affect the soil and daily life.
Antalya's registered local delicacies for leaders
Gift boxes featuring the city's local delicacies have been prepared for the leaders attending COP31 under the coordination of the Antalya Governorship. Jams made from bitter orange, bergamot and the Korkuteli karyağdı pear, bearing the "COP31 Türkiye Antalya" logo, will be presented in wooden boxes alongside tahini and molasses made from Manavgat's registered golden sesame and Side's registered pomegranate sour sauce. The glass jars contain QR codes providing information about the products' place and method of production.
Ebru Kocaacar, a second-generation representative of the 37-year-old company that prepared the products, said they had chosen wood and recyclable materials in line with COP31's environmentally friendly character.
Zero Waste Day on November 11
Climate Change President Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar announced that Zero Waste Day events would be held at the summit on November 11 and that two initiatives would be announced at the leaders' level on the same day: the Circularity Knowledge Sharing Network Initiative and the Global High-Level Dialogue Initiative on Methane Emissions from Waste. The goal is to halve the increase in municipal waste worldwide by 2035.
Hasar recalled that 90 million tons of waste had been recovered through the Zero Waste movement, launched in 2017 under the patronage of Emine Erdoğan, contributing 365 billion liras to the economy. He said the recovery rate had risen from 13 percent to 37.53 percent, with a target of 60 percent by 2035. Emphasizing that the conference venue also holds zero-waste certification, Hasar said: "Waste is not a cost; when managed properly, it is a resource for both the climate and the economy."
The video shared by Minister Kurum with the note "COPArt: We are crossing boundaries through the power of art" features works from the COPArt exhibition prepared as part of the summit.
The summit's official account also continued the countdown with the message: "The world is telling us something. Are we listening?" The summit, which Hasar described as an "Implementation COP," aims to complete the technical agenda during the first week and devote the second week to political consensus.
The video, shared with the message "Only two days left" for COP31, features fires, flooded coastlines and scenes of drought alongside narration giving voice to the world.
