Somali army’s Gorgor Commando 22nd Brigade completes training in Türkiye
The 22nd Brigade of the Gorgor Commando forces, part of the Somali National Army Ground Forces, completed its advanced military training program in Türkiye at a ceremony.
The 22nd Brigade of the Gorgor Commando forces, part of the Somali National Army Ground Forces, completed its advanced military training program in Türkiye. According to the Somali National News Agency SONNA, the training aimed to improve the unit’s military skills and operational capabilities. A ceremony featuring the Turkish and Somali flags was held at the end of the program.
According to SONNA, the 22nd Brigade became the second Ground Forces brigade to complete the full training program as a unit.
The Somali Ground Forces aim to take over security points held by contingents of international peacekeeping forces that have withdrawn from the country and assume full responsibility for national security.
Türkiye has long supported the training of the Somali army. The TURKSOM Military Training Command in Mogadishu has trained Somali soldiers since 2017 and is one of Türkiye’s largest military training facilities abroad. “Gorgor” means “eagle” in Somali.
