The incident occurred on December 29, 2025, in Ümit Neighborhood. Mihriban Yılmaz, who lived with her family, left home in the evening and went to a relative's house nearby. After staying there for a while, Yılmaz left, saying, "I'm going to meet someone." When her family could not reach her after that date, they filed a missing person report. Police determined that on the day of the incident, around 8:
30 PM, she went to the empty lot on 7309 Street and got into a pickup truck waiting for her there. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Fatih İnan. It was found that the suspect lived in the same building as Yılmaz's relatives. On January 11, police detained Fatih İnan along with R. Ç. (34), R. Ç. (32), H. İ. (37), and Ö. İ. (25). During interrogation by homicide detectives, İnan confessed to the crime.
He said he strangled Yılmaz and buried her body in the forest. İnan, accompanied by police, showed the burial site. An examination of the area located Yılmaz's lifeless body. After police procedures, the suspects were referred to the courthouse; Fatih İnan was arrested, and the others were released under judicial control.
CAUGHT ON CAMERA Meanwhile, Fatih İnan's brother Ömer İnan was also detained on January 16. Ömer İnan was allegedly involved as an aider in his brother Fatih İnan's intentional killing. The case file indicated that evidence had not yet been fully collected and new suspects could be added.
Ömer İnan was arrested the same day by the court he was brought before, on the grounds of "strong suspicion of having committed the alleged crime." Security camera footage related to Mihriban Yılmaz's death emerged. The footage showed moments when Fatih İnan left Ümit Neighborhood in his pickup truck and entered a forest road.
The investigation found that İnan drove about 10 kilometers along the forest road and buried Yılmaz's body in the ground.
'NO GROUNDS FOR PROSECUTION' DECISION LIFTED Meanwhile, it emerged that Naile Büşra Sarıgül, who worked as an occupational safety specialist at a factory in Manisa's Yunusemre district, died on August 3, 2023, after falling from a height, and that DNA samples taken from Sarıgül contained sperm samples belonging to Fatih İnan.
The death was initially attributed to a heart attack, and a "no grounds for prosecution" decision was issued regarding İnan. Following this development, the investigation prosecutor requested the lifting of the "no grounds for prosecution" decision concerning Sarıgül's death.
PENALTY SOUGHT FOR 5 DEFENDANTS In the indictment prepared after the investigation, the prosecutor sought aggravated life imprisonment for Fatih İnan on charges of "premeditated murder with monstrous intent or by inflicting torture," and up to 12 years in prison for "aggravated sexual assault." For the other defendants, Ömer İnan, R. Ç., and his wife R. Ç., aggravated life imprisonment was sought for "participation in the crime."
For H. İ., Fatih İnan's uncle and the owner of the vehicle used in the incident, up to 20 years in prison was requested for "aiding the crime." FAMILY REACTS The trial of the defendants began today at the İzmir 23rd High Criminal Court. The detained İnan brothers, the non-detained defendants, as well as Mihriban Yılmaz's family and lawyers attended the hearing. The detained defendant Fatih İnan was given the floor first.
İnan, who denied the charges against him, said: "We hadn't met before. She sent me a friend request on social media. After a while, we decided to meet. She threatened me through our messages. When I tried to take the phone from her, she started screaming and I covered her mouth with my hand. I didn't realize she couldn't breathe. As far as I know, I performed CPR. I couldn't believe she was dead.
Then I buried her where pigs had rooted," he said. The other detained defendant Ömer İnan requested his release. The non-detained defendants who took the floor denied the charges against them. Mihriban's mother Sevim Yılmaz and father Fehmi Yılmaz, who were given the floor, reacted to the defendants and demanded the harshest punishment. 1 RELEASE After the defense and statements, the interim ruling was announced.
The panel ruled for the continuation of Fatih İnan's detention and ordered Ömer İnan's release under judicial control. The panel also decided to request a mental health report on Fatih İnan from Manisa Mental Health and Diseases Hospital, and after resolving the deficiencies in the file, adjourned the hearing.
