The Ministry of Trade said the Türkiye–Bulgaria Customs Administrations Meeting was held in Kapıkule and that, under the decision taken, the Dereköy–Malko Tarnovo border gates in Kırklareli will open to light commercial cargo vehicles with a gross weight of up to 3.5 tonnes from 3 August.
The ministry said the Trade Counsellor's Office at the Turkish Embassy in Sofia had conveyed the official notification from Bulgaria's National Customs Agency, which stated:
The official notification states that, to ensure the smooth completion of customs procedures for light commercial vehicles passing through the border gate, the goods being transported must be presented to the customs administration under the transit regime and properly secured with customs seals. It also states that the vehicles must have valid freight transport licences and the required international transport permits. Under the new arrangement, 3,000 commercial vehicles—1,500 entries and 1,500 exits per week—are expected to use the Kırklareli Dereköy–Malko Tarnovo border gates, easing vehicle and goods traffic at the Kapıkule and Hamzabeyli customs directorates. The arrangement is expected to facilitate export and import crossings.
The measure is expected to reduce vehicle queues at the Kapıkule and Hamzabeyli customs gates, particularly during busy periods, and contribute to faster trade.
