Turkish Education Minister Yusuf Tekin commented on attacks at and around schools after a student was killed in a school attack in Istanbul’s Başakşehir district. "This has become a disease. Police measures alone are not enough to fight it," he said.
Measures taken in schools
"We have taken many measures in our schools, including armed and unarmed security staff, camera recordings, mobile cameras and emergency alert systems. But the measures we take in schools alone are not enough. The most important of our stakeholders are families," Tekin said.

"Families must be part of the process"
Tekin stressed that families should closely follow their children’s behavior and be more careful about risks such as firearms at home, noting that the ministry launched a "Parent School" program to involve families.
