An important step has been taken for environmentally friendly construction in Turkey with the new regulation published by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. From January 1, 2027, energy identity certificates and building life cycle analysis certificates will be mandatory for new buildings that will receive construction permits and exceed 10,000 square meters. Within the scope of this application, not only the energy consumption during the building's usage period but also the greenhouse gas emissions arising from all processes from construction to demolition will be calculated. Stages such as raw material supply, transportation, maintenance, renovation, and recycling will also be included in the analyses.

The analyses to be made through the Ministry's BEP-TR system will be prepared by authorized energy identity experts. In addition, buildings with a greenhouse gas emission class of at least B and an energy performance class of at least C on the energy identity certificate will be entitled to receive a "low carbon building certificate." Minister Murat Kurum stated that this regulation will accelerate environmentally friendly construction and aims to spread low-emission buildings.
