Built on 2 million square meters of land unsuitable for agriculture in the Erzin Hürriyet neighborhood under the Renewable Energy Resource Areas (YEKA) solar projects, the Erzin-2 Solar Power Plant continues to generate clean energy.
Operated by IC Enterra Renewable Energy and housing more than 250,000 high-efficiency photovoltaic panels, the plant generated 75,000 megawatt-hours of electricity in the first six months of 2025.
Erzin-2 Solar Power Plant Operations Manager Mehmet Cihangir told an AA correspondent that they produced 228,000 megawatt-hours last year, saying, "In the first six months of this year, we generated 75,000 megawatt-hours. This prevented approximately 40,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Last year, we also prevented around 140,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. This is equivalent to the environmental benefit provided by a vast forest of about 300,000 trees."
Cihangir explained that they chose an environmentally friendly method for clearing spontaneously growing vegetation on the site, and that by allowing 200 small livestock to graze in a controlled manner, they have reduced fire risk while also supporting local producers.
Emphasizing that the plant meets a large portion of Erzin district's electricity needs, Cihangir said, "Based on last year's production data, with 228,000 megawatt-hours of generation, we have met the electricity needs of approximately 80,000 to 90,000 households from the Erzin-2 Solar Power Plant without using any fossil fuels. This actually shows that we are single-handedly providing all the residential electricity of a medium-sized district."
