The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) total reserves rose by $2.116 billion week-on-week to $162.606 billion in the week ending July 24.
According to the CBRT's weekly money and banking statistics, gross foreign exchange reserves fell by $3.031 billion to $62.396 billion in the same period.
Gold reserves, on the other hand, followed the opposite trend, rising by $5.147 billion from $95.063 billion to $100.210 billion.
Thus, the increase in total reserves was driven by the strong performance of gold holdings.
The CBRT data also provides important clues about the course of reserves over the past year. Total reserves, which stood at $137.2 billion in January 2024, followed a fluctuating course in the following months but caught an upward trend especially in 2025 and 2026, driven by large increases in gold reserves.
Gold reserves, which were around $48 billion in 2024, surpassed the $100 billion threshold in April 2026. Gross foreign exchange reserves, meanwhile, fell from $89 billion to $62 billion over the same period.
The latest data shows that the weight of gold in the central bank's foreign exchange portfolio has increased and that total reserves continue to hover above $160 billion.
