More than 20,000 companies operating in different cities and belonging to the seven exporters' associations under the Istanbul Exporters' Associations (IEA) exported $7.547 billion worth of goods from January through July. With this result, IEA exports increased by 4.9% compared with the same period last year.
IEA members sold products to 193 countries in the first seven months of the year and maintained their 5.4% share of Türkiye's total exports. Exports in July amounted to $1.107 billion.
United States ranks first
The United States ranked first among the countries to which the IEA exported the most by value during the seven-month period, with $463 million. The products shipped to the country included cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products, sugar and sugar products, as well as paper and cardboard products.
After the United States, the largest export markets were the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway and Iraq. Paper and cardboard products, along with ships, stood out in exports to the United Kingdom, while hazelnuts and their products, as well as paper and cardboard products, led exports to Germany.
Ships were the leading item in sales to Norway, while animal products and wood and forestry products were the main export items to Iraq.
European Union countries lead by region
Among country groups, the European Union countries were the region to which the IEA exported the most. Exports to the region rose by 5.2% compared with the same period last year, reaching $1.889 billion.
Erkan Özkan, chairman of the Istanbul Exporters' Associations Coordinator's Office, said the seven-month increase in exports was important in terms of gains achieved in different markets. Özkan said these increases contributed to the sustainable growth of exports and strengthened market diversification.
Özkan announced that exports to African countries rose by 7.2%, exports to Far Eastern countries increased by 32.8%, and exports to the Commonwealth of Independent States grew by 1.2% during the same period. He said the momentum in the Far Eastern and African markets demonstrated exporters' ability to capitalize on opportunities in different regions.
London trade delegation held
In July, the IEA also carried out initiatives to strengthen exporters' connections in international markets. Under the coordination of the Ministry of Trade and organized by the Turkish Exporters Assembly and the IEA, a United Kingdom-London trade delegation was held for the furniture, home textiles and carpet sectors.
The event brought Turkish exporters together with the United Kingdom's business community. Özkan said they aimed for trade delegations to help companies establish new business connections, develop existing relationships and increase their export potential.
Özkan said training programs, trade delegations and market development initiatives tailored to exporters' needs would continue in the coming period. He said the IEA's goal was to deepen its presence in existing markets, enter new markets and increase its contribution to Türkiye's exports.
