Fenerbahçe coach İsmail Kartal spoke at a press conference held at Villa Park ahead of this evening’s UEFA Champions League match against Aston Villa, which will kick off at 22:00 Türkiye time. Kartal said they had completed their preparations and had held their final training session in Istanbul because of the long journey, aiming to give the players more time to rest.
Kartal said the team’s energy and motivation were good and described their opponents as a strong and serious side. Recalling that Aston Villa had also started the previous season slowly before putting together important runs and finishing in the top four, Kartal said Fenerbahçe wanted to return home by putting in their best effort with disciplined play.

Kartal: We want to leave with a positive result
Emphasizing that they were not considering the possibility of dropping points, Kartal said he trusted his players and his team. He said Fenerbahçe would take the field to win and that, while they respected their opponents, avoiding defeat would also be important if they could not secure victory.
Kartal said the team planned its approach match by match and that they could rest some players. He said they planned to use players at the appropriate time to reduce the risk of injury, compete with well-rested players, preserve team cohesion and maintain fairness in playing time.
Kartal said they had traveled to England with a full squad and would make decisions after consulting the medical team before the match. He said they had conceded goals they did not want and suffered defeats in the first four weeks of the season, adding that they were aware of what they needed to do to correct these problems and had been performing well recently.
Kartal said they had been able to train only two days during the week and had planned accordingly. He described Çaykur Rizespor, whom Fenerbahçe beat 3-0 away in their latest league match, as a dynamic team and one of the league’s hardest-running sides. Kartal said the plans they had prepared for that match were reflected on the pitch.
Brown: My main responsibility is defending
Archie Brown, Fenerbahçe’s English player who attended the press conference, said he was pleased to contribute in attack but that his main responsibility was defending.

Brown said the team had the confidence needed to advance to the next stage. Saying they had wanted to play in the Champions League for a long time, Brown said they needed to use every match to show their level as a team and that he was excited about this evening’s fixture.
Brown said he was happy to return to the city where he was born, but that his main objective was to claim three points despite being in the city where his family lives. He said his role could change according to the coach’s preference and that he was pleased with his attacking contributions, but emphasized that his primary focus was defending.
