Five Suspects Arrested in Bribery Operation Targeting Seferihisar Municipality
Five out of seven suspects detained in an investigation led by the Izmir Republic Chief Public Prosecutor's Office have been arrested. Judicial control measures were imposed on Nermin Günay, the wife of Güzelbahçe Mayor Mustafa Günay.
The seven suspects detained within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Izmir Republic Chief Public Prosecutor's Office were referred to the courthouse after procedures at the Provincial Police Department's Financial Crimes Branch.
Among the suspects, Seferihisar Deputy Mayor İ. G. P., construction company officials S. B. and R. K. B., public official Ö. A., and company official R. Ö. were arrested by the judge before whom they were brought.
Judicial control measures were imposed on Nermin Günay, the wife of Güzelbahçe Mayor Mustafa Günay, who was previously removed from duty after his arrest, while company employee M. C. H. was released.
Background of the Operation
In the investigation into allegations that certain individuals and organizations linked to Seferihisar Municipality obtained benefits in exchange for procedures related to construction and zoning processes, six suspects, including Seferihisar Deputy Mayor İ. G. P., were detained on June 17.
Nermin Günay, the wife of Güzelbahçe Mayor Mustafa Günay—who was previously arrested and removed from duty and is alleged to have connections with the suspects—and company employee M. C. H. were also apprehended on June 18.
Procedures for the aforementioned eight suspects were completed yesterday at the Provincial Police Department's Financial Crimes Branch. Suspect S. Y. was released after giving a statement due to health problems. The other suspects were referred to the courthouse.
