Five suspects detained in corruption probe into Yahşihan Municipality in Kırıkkale
Five suspects, including acting mayor Aydın Demirdirek, were detained in the investigation into Yahşihan Municipality conducted by the Kırıkkale Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. One suspect was released after giving a statement to prosecutors, while four others were released under judicial control.
Gendarmerie procedures for 10 suspects detained as part of the corruption investigation into Yahşihan Municipality conducted by the Kırıkkale Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office have been completed.
Following medical examinations, the suspects were referred to the courthouse. A. D. was released after giving a statement to prosecutors. Acting mayor Aydın Demirdirek and C. D., E. B., İ. A. and S. S. Y. were detained.
A. K., A. Ö., F. D. and Ö. Ö. were released under judicial control. Thus, five suspects were detained in the latest operation.
Background of the investigation
The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office evaluated together the statements obtained as part of the investigation, financial analysis reports, expert examinations, land registry and vehicle records, and findings in zoning files.
Following these assessments, a simultaneous operation was conducted in two provinces. Nine suspects, including acting mayor Demirdirek, were detained in the operation; one more suspect was apprehended later.
During a phase of the investigation on Sept. 24, 35 suspects were detained, including former mayors Ahmet Sungur and Osman Türkyılmaz, deputy mayors, municipal council members, municipal employees and businesspeople.
Sixteen of these individuals, including former mayors Sungur and Türkyılmaz, were detained. Four suspects were placed under house arrest, while 15 were released under judicial control.
