In Muğla, 75 forest fires that broke out in July and August 2021 affected approximately 60,000 hectares. In the fires, 52,020 hectares of forest area were completely reduced to ash.
Immediately after the fires, within the scope of reforestation efforts, the burned trees were first cleared from the site. Despite harsh winter conditions, teams from the Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry completed 90% of the work within the first year.
A total of 220,000 kilograms of seeds, including 205,000 kilograms of red pine and 15,000 kilograms of black pine, were scattered over the burned areas. Since one kilogram of red pine seeds contains about 16,000 seeds and black pine about 45,000 seeds, the number of seeds that met the soil was calculated to be approximately 3.9 billion.
As a result of five years of maintenance and rehabilitation work, the saplings grew to human height. The slopes that turned to ash in 2021 have now regained the appearance of a green forest.
