Ambassador Hasan Murat Mercan receives Japan’s State Decoration
Japan’s Ambassador to Ankara, Tamura Masami, hosted a reception to mark the presentation of Japan’s State Decoration to former Turkish Ambassador to Tokyo Hasan Murat Mercan. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç also attended the ceremony.
Japan’s Ambassador to Ankara, Tamura Masami, hosted a reception at the embassy to mark the presentation of Japan’s State Decoration to Ambassador Hasan Murat Mercan.
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç, who attended the reception, congratulated Mercan and thanked him for his contributions to strengthening friendship and cooperation between Türkiye and Japan. Tunç said, "I hope relations between the two friendly and allied countries will continue to develop in every field."
Hasan Murat Mercan served as ambassador to Tokyo, to which he was appointed at the end of 2017, until 2021. He then served as ambassador to Washington until 2024. Mercan had previously served as a member of parliament for Eskişehir, chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, and deputy minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
