The Gavarni Valleys, located in the Hautes-Pyrénées region of southern France, have launched a notable campaign to attract more tourists during the summer season. The first 100 holidaymakers will receive a 50-euro fuel voucher.
The initiative aims to partially ease transportation costs for visitors staying in the area. To benefit from the campaign, tourists must book at least two nights at one of the partner facilities.
The support applies to stays between June 1 and July 31. However, the period from July 7 to 11, coinciding with the Tour de France, is excluded from this offer.
Tourism officials in the region noted that the initiative was introduced following the Easter holiday period, during which visitor numbers fell short of expectations, and May also saw little booking activity.
Local tourism representatives point to the rising cost of living, especially increased fuel prices, as key reasons for the lack of interest. It is suggested that additional incentives may be considered to boost tourism revenues, which are vital for the local economy.
Hautes-Pyrénées is known for its proximity to the Spanish border and its appeal as a nature tourism destination. Authorities believe attracting more visitors during the summer will benefit both accommodation providers and local businesses.
