Galatasaray beat Lille 4-2 away to claim first Champions League win
Galatasaray beat France’s Lille 4-2 away in the third week of the UEFA Champions League league phase to secure their first win in the tournament and reach 3 points.
Galatasaray secured their first win in the tournament by beating French side Lille 4-2 at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in the third week of the UEFA Champions League league phase. After losing their first two matches, the Turkish side raised their points tally to 3.
Galatasaray took the lead in the second minute: Yunus Akgün found the net after Lille’s defense failed to clear Barış Alper Yılmaz’s cross from the left. Lille equalized in the eighth minute through Soriba Diakite.
After taking control of the game, the home side went ahead again in the 40th minute with another goal from Diakite. A penalty awarded to Galatasaray in the 26th minute was overturned following a VAR review. Four minutes later, the Turkish side equalized through Aleksey Patrakov’s header from Roland Sallai’s cross.
Galatasaray regained the lead in the 52nd minute when Lucas Torreira headed in Gabriel Sara’s corner. In the 61st minute, Victor Osimhen, combining with Barış Alper Yılmaz, scored to make it 4-2 and end the team’s two-match losing streak.
