As part of a project carried out in cooperation with HAVELSAN and the Özdemir Bayraktar Science Center affiliated with Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, hands-on technology workshops were held for students at village schools in the Yomra, Akçaabat and Of districts.
Students experienced technology applications
The project was launched ahead of TEKNOFEST Southeast to give children the opportunity to experience applications in engineering and technology and to become familiar with domestic technologies at an early age.
On the first day of the Trabzon program, students from Yomra Çamlıyurt Primary School and Maden Middle School took part in workshops held throughout the day. Alongside the BARKAN unmanned ground vehicle game workshop, activities included a robotic arm workshop, a sundial activity and a paper airplane competition.
The events included activities designed to develop students’ engineering, design, production and problem-solving skills. The BAHA below-cloud unmanned aerial vehicle, developed by HAVELSAN engineers, was also introduced to the students.
Students examined BAHA, which was brought to the village schools, up close, received information about the vehicle from engineers and watched a live demonstration of the unmanned aerial vehicle. This gave them the opportunity to observe real-life applications of engineering work.
Nearly 500 students reached in three days
The events began on October 19 at Yomra Çamlıyurt Primary School and Maden Middle School, continued on October 20 at Akçaabat Sarıtaş Imam Hatip Middle School, and concluded on October 21 at Of Bölümlü Şehit İhsan Yıldız Middle School.
Nearly 500 students took part in the three-day program. At the end of the events, the children received Engineer Child participation certificates and Engineer Child magazines. The project aimed to support students’ scientific thinking, problem-solving and production skills and increase their interest in engineering and technology.
Events held ahead of BilimFest
HAVELSAN will also take part in BilimFest, which will be held at the Trabzon Özdemir Bayraktar Science Center from October 22 to 24. The “Engineer Child on the Road” events held before the festival brought science and technology activities to village schools and aimed to increase students’ awareness of BilimFest.
The project aims to deliver knowledge in engineering and technology to wider groups of students and strengthen children’s interest and motivation as they pursue a future as engineers.
