HAVELSAN served as the main contractor for the Vessel Traffic Services Center, which was inaugurated with an official ceremony in the Gazimağusa district of the TRNC the previous day. Speaking about the project, which aims to maximize maritime security and situational awareness across the Eastern Mediterranean and the 'Blue Homeland,' HAVELSAN General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar said the domestic digital maritime surveillance system was strengthened with artificial intelligence support.

Nacar, who made statements to the press about the Vessel Traffic Services System installed in Gazimağusa, TRNC, under the Eastern Mediterranean Vessel Traffic Services Project, underlined that an integrated structure has been achieved, thanks to domestic software integrated with radars, electronic systems, communication infrastructure and towers set up in the field, enabling the detection of foreign vessel movements, human smuggling and illegal operations.
'The system can work integrated with our existing systems and, with its AI-powered analysis capability, elevates situational awareness to the highest levels. HAVELSAN replaced foreign-origin software with domestic ones in the Turkish Straits Vessel Traffic Services in 2023 and reinforced the sensors with domestic products,' he said.
The system installed in the TRNC went a step further than previous ones with a higher localization rate. This system will be the eye of both Turkey and the TRNC in the 'Blue Homeland.' Thanks to this system, what happens here can be detected and monitored much more easily. This will give us more freedom to act. We will achieve situational awareness at sea with our own systems, without being dependent on others," he said. AA
