Famous poet and theater actor Ibrahim Sadri brought his 40 years of career experience to art lovers at the Uskudar Baglarbasi Congress and Culture Center with a one-man theatrical show titled "Ibrahim Sadri Cinema."
Stating that performing such a show after approximately 32 years made him feel young, Sadri said, "I realized the audience also missed it. This made me very happy." Sadri stated that in the show, he mainly brought stories and memories of the recent past to the stage.
Poetry, stories, anecdotes and jokes together
Emphasizing that the show has a theatrical structure, Sadri said, "Rather than a theater play, it is a show that includes poetry, emotional stories, anecdotes and some jokes, appearing a bit messy like life itself. The interest we see shows that it can reach better places in the future."
Stating that theater holds a special place for him, Sadri expressed that he has always tried to add a theatrical atmosphere to his television programs and poetry recitals since he started theater professionally in 1985. "Theater is a habit you cannot quit once you get into it. Being able to do this again after so many years is a separate source of happiness," he said.
Praise from Ulvi Alacakaptan
Theater artist Ulvi Alacakaptan, who worked with Sadri on important projects such as "People and Clowns," said he liked the show very much. Alacakaptan commented, "There are both religious anecdotes and stories from the past. Against the harsh days of the present time, he did it very well without boring the audience."
Noting that Sadri's style of reading poetry now resembles that of master theater actor Musfik Kenter, Alacakaptan said, "His reading of the poems is wonderful. This year marks the 41st anniversary of our production of 'People and Clowns' with him." Alacakaptan also recalled that he had criticized Sadri's melodic reading in the past, and stated that he now appreciates this style.
An interactive nostalgic journey with the audience
The show, which provides interactive communication with the audience, is full of references to the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. The performance, blending stories, memories, photographs, poems and songs, offers a broad panorama of the old days, from open-air cinemas to Istanbul traffic, from iftar invitations to the adventures of street vendors.
In the show, whose technical direction is undertaken by Furkan Eren, important figures from the literary and art world are also commemorated. The performance, featuring poems and songs interpreted by Ibrahim Sadri in his own style, will continue to meet art lovers in different cities throughout the year.
