Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi announced after the Security Meeting, which addressed the fight against smuggling, organized crime and financial crimes, that 1,741 operations targeting 625 organized crime groups had been carried out since the beginning of the year. More than 8,000 suspects were arrested in the operations.

Çiftçi said that combating new-generation organized crime gangs had been among their priorities since the beginning of his term in office, adding that the operations were continuing resolutely both domestically and abroad.
Extraditions increased five- to sixfold
Çiftçi said extraditions from abroad had risen to five or six times the average of the past five years and that efforts would be intensified to narrow organized crime groups’ areas of activity.
“We will make significant progress in November and December”
Çiftçi said, “Over the next two months, in November and December, when we intensify the fight against organized crime groups, we will hopefully make significant progress on this issue as well.”
Addressing those who extort money from citizens, Çiftçi said, “We will find those who flee and those who hide and hand them over to justice.” Çiftçi added, “We will not let the gangs breathe.”
