Teams from the Istanbul Police Department’s Cybercrime Unit conducted an investigation into illegal betting under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
After examining digital materials seized in an earlier operation, the teams determined that an application installed on Android-based phones had been used. The suspects were found to have registered GSM lines belonging to different people on the application and sent text messages promoting illegal betting through those lines.

The suspects who registered the GSM lines on the application were found to have made illicit gains of between €0.005 and €0.01 for each message they sent. Investigators determined that more than 1 million text messages promoting illegal betting had been sent through the system.

The 24 suspects whose identities and addresses had been established were detained in a simultaneous operation.
The suspects’ bank accounts, along with 13 vehicles and 3 apartments believed to have been acquired through criminal proceeds, were seized. The suspects were taken to the police station for processing.
