The IOC announced the candidates seeking to host the 2036 Olympic Games and participating in the “continuous dialogue” process. Germany, Hungary, India, Qatar, South Korea and South Africa joined Türkiye among the candidate countries.
No new candidates will be accepted after October 31. The candidate cities will present their projects to the IOC commission virtually in November.
Stages of the bid process
The IOC Executive Board will announce the shortlisted candidates in March 2027 and then launch the “strategic dialogue” phase. During this phase, the candidate cities will provide legal and financial guarantees.

The IOC commission will conduct site visits to the candidate regions during the strategic dialogue process. The host city will be selected by a vote of IOC members at a session to be held in mid-2029.
What criteria will be used to assess the projects?
The candidate projects will be assessed based on their venue plans and athlete experience, financing strategies, political and public support, and organisational capacity. The assessment will also consider a legacy strategy that provides long-term benefits for host communities.
