Justice Minister Gürlek announced that two unsolved murder cases in Istanbul’s Gaziosmanpaşa district and Osmaniye’s Düziçi district had been cleared as a result of the investigations.
Gürlek said that HTS, cell-tower and call records, enhanced security camera footage and witness statements had been reassessed in the case concerning the killing of Abdülhamid Terkin on July 6, 2018. Gürlek said these efforts led to the identification of a fifth suspect in the incident and announced that the suspect, who was apprehended, had been remanded in custody on charges of intentional homicide.
Ayşegül Yaşar’s body found in the case
The case of Ayşegül Yaşar, who went missing in August in Osmaniye’s Düziçi district, was also reassessed on the basis of HTS and camera records, witness statements, forensic examinations and new evidence.
Gürlek said the investigation was expanded after biological findings detected in the vehicle used by the suspect on the day of the incident were determined to be compatible with samples taken from Ayşegül Yaşar’s parents. He said Yaşar’s body was found after the suspect showed investigators the location, and that the suspect and her parents were detained.
Thanks to institutions that contributed to the investigations
Gürlek thanked the Gaziosmanpaşa and Düziçi Chief Public Prosecutors’ Offices and the Istanbul and Osmaniye Provincial Police Departments for their work in clearing the cases.
Gürlek also thanked the Gaziosmanpaşa District Police Department, the Adana Regional Criminal Police Laboratory Directorate and the public officials who contributed to the process, saying efforts would continue to ensure that no murder remains unresolved, regardless of how much time passes.
