Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş met with Portuguese Parliament Speaker José Pedro Aguiar-Branco in Lisbon on Tuesday. The delegations of the two countries discussed interparliamentary relations, bilateral cooperation, and regional and international issues.
Kurtulmuş said reciprocal visits marking the 100th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Portugal would strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Kurtulmuş said bilateral trade volume stood at $3.7 billion and could approach $5 billion in the coming period. He also noted that the two countries could cooperate on numerous projects, particularly in the defense industry, and develop joint investments in third countries.
Kurtulmuş emphasized the importance of Portugal supporting Türkiye's process of full membership in the European Union. He said the process remained a strategic goal for Ankara.

Addressing international issues, Kurtulmuş said the international system and its institutions needed to be reformed. He underscored the importance of Türkiye and Portugal cooperating to establish a fairer and more equitable world order.

Kurtulmuş said a two-state solution was the only way forward on the Palestinian issue and praised Portugal's support for Palestine. He also said he hoped talks between Iran and the United States would continue and produce results, adding that the talks were continuing informally.
After the meeting, Kurtulmuş and Aguiar-Branco signed a protocol on interparliamentary cooperation. Kurtulmuş had traveled to Lisbon on Sunday for an official visit with several lawmakers accompanying him.
