Boorsok, a traditional Kyrgyz delicacy, was served to the heads of state attending the 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Ankara and their spouses.
The treat was served at the Turkic States Civilization Park, which opened at Beştepe on 29 October as part of the summit. Women dressed in traditional Kyrgyz clothing, including red velvet kaftans and fur hats, offered boorsok on carved wooden trays to the leaders touring the park by vehicle. The spouses of the leaders, who were traveling in the vehicle that also carried President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, later sampled the treat. The footage was recorded by Begimay Kubaniçbekova.
A staple of the guest table
Boorsok is a staple of Kyrgyz hospitality, prepared by cutting leavened dough into small pieces and frying them in oil. Known as baursak in Kazakhstan and pişme in Turkmenistan, the delicacy is prepared in many parts of Central Asia and served during holidays, weddings and when welcoming guests. According to tradition, people believe that the aroma released as boorsok fries in oil reaches the spirits of ancestors.
Kyrgyzstan was the summit's guest of honor
Kyrgyzstan was one of the countries that stood out at the summit. At an official dinner on the evening of 29 October, President Erdoğan presented Kyrgyzstan's President Sadyr Japarov with the Order of the Turkic World.
The main session of the summit, held under the theme “Turkic Century: Unity in Language, Thought and Action,” is taking place in Ankara on 30 October. Türkiye is taking over the Organization of Turkic States' rotating presidency from Azerbaijan at the summit.
