The 13th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States began in Ankara under the hosting of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The heads of state attending the summit, held under the theme “The Turkic Century: Unity in Language, Thought and Action,” were greeted by Erdoğan as they arrived at the Beştepe Nation Exhibition Hall.
Erdoğan welcomed, one by one, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov, as well as guests from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The leaders posed for a family photograph before the opening of the summit.
“There is no room for division in the family photograph of the Turkic world”
Speaking at the summit, Erdoğan said, “There is no room for division, separation or discord in the family photograph of the Turkic world. We are all one, together, and God willing, brothers from eternity to eternity.” Erdoğan said he believed the Organization would increase its contacts with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and emphasized that they valued Turkmenistan’s contributions.
“Under the dynamic leadership of my brother Serdar Berdimuhamedov, we hope to see Turkmenistan as a full member of our family council as soon as possible,” Erdoğan said.
Messages on Iran and Palestine
Erdoğan said conflicts in the region benefited no one and had serious consequences for the global economy, trade and energy markets. “We hope that the tensions with Iran, which have risen again recently, will be resolved through diplomacy rather than weapons,” he said.
Describing the Palestinian issue as “our bleeding wound,” Erdoğan said Turkic states needed to make greater efforts for a just solution and contribute to delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and launching reconstruction efforts as soon as possible. Erdoğan called for support for an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Middle Corridor, cybersecurity and the Great Turkic Language Model
Erdoğan described the Trans-Caspian East-West Middle Corridor as “a strategic route that will shape the trade of tomorrow.” Saying that cybersecurity was as vital as land, air and maritime security, Erdoğan said they expected the Memorandum of Understanding on Cybersecurity and Cyber Cooperation to be signed as soon as possible.
Erdoğan said accelerating the joint satellite project was among their priorities and stated that the countries’ markets could be brought together on a common digital trade platform. He said they expected all member states to contribute to developing the Great Turkic Language Model, which will cover the Oghuz, Kipchak and Karluk language groups.
Türkiye to take over chairmanship from Azerbaijan
Türkiye will take over the Organization’s rotating chairmanship from Azerbaijan at the summit. In an article titled “The Century of the Turkic World: From Solidarity to Integration,” published on the morning of the summit in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Turkmenistan and Hungary on the same day, Erdoğan wrote, “I sincerely believe that the 21st century will be the ‘Century of the Turkic World.’”
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz also said at the Turkic World Dialogue Forum held as part of the summit that they would exercise the rotating chairmanship to be taken over from Azerbaijan “with the understanding of turning it into concrete gains for the stability, development and prosperity of our countries.”
