London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced that he will attend the UN Climate Change Conference COP31 in Antalya. As co-chair of the C40 Cities network, which brings together around 100 major cities, Khan will represent London and the C40 cities at the summit.
“As the first London mayor to visit Türkiye, I will represent our capital at COP31,” Khan said. “Climate change is the biggest threat facing our planet. Our cities have a critical role to play in delivering the change we want to see,” he added.
Khan announced the visit while making künefe in Green Lanes
Khan announced the visit at the Antepliler restaurant on Green Lanes, an area of London with a large Turkish community. After meeting the restaurant’s owner, Ahmet Murat Üstünsürmeli, Khan also tried making künefe. Khan was accompanied by Mete Coban, the deputy mayor responsible for Environment and Energy.

Khan noted that Hackney, Enfield and Haringey have significant Turkish populations, and that Türkiye ranks 13th among the countries where the largest number of Londoners were born.
Khan will travel to Istanbul after Antalya
After his engagements in Antalya, Khan will travel to Istanbul to discuss increasing investment between the two major cities and highlight the contributions of London’s Turkish community. Khan said that around 8,000 British companies trade with Türkiye and that Türkiye is expected to become Europe’s fourth-largest economy by 2050.
The COP31 leaders’ summit will be held on 11-12 November, while COP31 will take place at the Antalya EXPO Center from 9-20 November.
