The incident occurred on Monday, July 27, at around 7:00 p.m. at the neighborhood market set up in Kulaksız Mahallesi. A dispute broke out between Nurcihan Yıkılkan, who was shopping at the market, and vendor Selahattin Ş. over the selection of pears.
Selahattin Ş., thinking that Yıkılkan was damaging the products on the stall while choosing, warned her, saying, “Sister, I sell these, we make our living from them. Don’t damage the goods.” Following the warning, the argument quickly escalated into a physical fight.

He struck me suddenly, I was covered in blood
Nurcihan Yıkılkan spoke about the incident, saying, “I was cleaning. Around 6:30-7:00 p.m., my mother asked for pears. My mother is visually impaired; she is disabled and has no teeth. I told her, ‘Mom, I’ll get them, okay.’ I was also doing work at home. I went to the market around that time. There was a stall with some overripe fruits. I was looking for ones suitable for my mother. The man said, ‘What are you doing?’ I explained, ‘Brother, my mother can’t see, she has no teeth. I’ll get some ripe pears.’ He said, ‘You can’t get them.’ I said, ‘Brother, please.’ He swore at me, saying ‘Your mother’ and insisted, ‘You can’t get them.’ Then he suddenly hit me on the head. I couldn’t understand what happened; I was covered in blood. Should women be treated like this? Don’t they have mothers, fathers, families? Can’t we go to the market? Can’t we buy what we want?” she said.
