Teams from the İzmir Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit, under the coordination of the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, launched an investigation into 'forming an organization to commit crime' and 'aggravated fraud.'
Information, documents, statements, MASAK account movements, expert reports, complainant and witness testimonies, accident reports prepared by the Insurance Information and Monitoring Center, and damage payment files obtained from insurance companies were examined. A group was found to have systematically staged traffic accidents.
They staged accidents in areas without cameras, positioning the vehicles to look like they had crashed, taking photos, drafting accident reports among themselves, towing the vehicles to repair shops, and then filing claims with insurance companies based on the damage files.
It was assessed that this method eliminated the possibility of an insurance adjuster inspection, applications were made to receive damage payments, and when payment was not made, some files were pursued through arbitration, court, and enforcement proceedings. 200 million TL illegal gain The investigation identified that the suspects, including ringleader Eyüp G. and Çağdaş İ., who was considered a network manager,
and lawyer Arda A., used 'staged accidents' to defraud insurance companies, obtaining approximately 200 million TL in illicit gains. Arrest warrants were issued for 62 suspects. Simultaneous operations were carried out in Istanbul, Ankara, Ağrı, and Antalya, centered on İzmir, between July 6 and 9.
In the operation, a total of 54 suspects were captured and taken into custody. Searches at the suspects' addresses yielded accident reports, insurance policies, powers of attorney, notes on accident parties, insurance and comprehensive insurance documents, identity documents belonging to different persons, assignment agreements, releases, and various other documents.
17 lawyers involved in the collection process The investigation also found that 17 lawyers were involved in the collection of the claim files. MASAK account movement analyses assessed that lawyer Arda A. acted on behalf of the network and held a managerial position.
Other lawyers, as no account movements with the ringleader or members were found, were included in the file as witnesses.
24 suspects arrested Of the 54 suspects, 15 were released after police procedures, and one was released after the prosecutor's questioning. 24 suspects were arrested by the court, while 14 were released under judicial control. It was learned that efforts are ongoing to capture three fugitive suspects. Five suspects already in prison for other crimes had their SEGBİS procedures delayed due to court workload, and their questioning was postponed to July 13.
