Companies affiliated with the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association shipped 72,074 tons of fresh fruit and vegetables to international markets in July. The value of the association’s exports reached $92.6 million, up 54% from the same period last year.
The association accounted for 31.3% of Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in July. Bülent Sarıkaya, chairman of the board of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said demand for Turkish fresh fruit and vegetables in global markets remained strong.
Export value rises 54%
Sarıkaya said product diversity, quality and effective marketing efforts had contributed positively to exports. Noting that export volumes were close to those recorded in the same period last year, Sarıkaya said the 54% increase in export value showed that the products were generating greater added value in international markets.
Peaches lead exports
Peaches ranked first in the association’s product-based exports in July, with $18.8 million. They were followed by apricots at $15.3 million and cherries and sour cherries at $14.3 million.
Mersin led the sector with exports worth $60.6 million. Sarıkaya said they would continue working to increase market diversity, raise quality standards and support the international competitiveness of association members.
