Italy’s Milan and Inter clubs unveiled the design of the new stadium they will share at an event in Milan. The venue, planned to be named “Generali Stadium,” will be built to replace the historic San Siro and will have a capacity of 71,500 spectators.
Design features of the new stadium
The stadium’s architectural design was prepared by Foster and Partners and Manica. The project features flowing stand lines, a double-curved roof and an exterior structure made up of X-shaped diagonal supports.
The stands will be arranged in an uninterrupted 360-degree configuration to bring spectators closer to the pitch. The design is intended to provide an atmosphere that enhances the match-day experience.
Landscaping and facilities
The approximately 281,000-square-metre area surrounding the stadium is also planned to be redeveloped. Alongside green spaces, the area is expected to include entertainment and retail facilities, transforming it into a center that can be used throughout the year.
The stadium, which will take its name from the Italian insurance company Generali, is planned to host football, American football and rugby matches, as well as concerts.

Construction schedule
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028, while the first match at the new stadium is expected to be played in the 2031-32 season, provided the necessary approvals and procedures are completed.
The project is estimated to cost approximately €1.2 billion. Milan and Inter view the new stadium project as a long-term investment, aiming to increase the clubs’ revenues and strengthen their competitiveness at the local and European levels.
It will replace San Siro
The new stadium project emerged after Milan, Inter and the Municipality of Milan reached an agreement in 2025 on the San Siro area. The agreement cleared the way for the redevelopment of the new venue and its surrounding area.
Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, also known as San Siro, is a historic sports venue where Milan and Inter have played their home matches for decades. The stadium has hosted numerous major fixtures in Italy’s top flight and European competitions.
